Vol. 542 No. 5

Written Answers. - Child Care Services.

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

408 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim will receive a grant for the provision of child care services. [25065/01]

As the Deputy may be aware, capital grant schemes for self-employed/private providers of child care are part of the Government child care funding initiatives administered under my Department's equal opportunities childcare programme 2000 to 2006. A completed application form for a capital grant was received in my Department's equal opportunities child care section from the person concerned on 1 June 2001. A technical assessment of this application was carried out before the programme appraisal committee, chaired by my Department, considered this application. On foot of the recommendation of the programme appraisal committee, I approved a capital grant of £40,000, 50,789.52 to the applicant on 10 October 2001. My Department's equal opportunities child care section has notified the applicant of my decision. Following approval, the applicant must enter into a contractual agreement with ADM Ltd., which is acting on my Department's behalf. I understand from my Department's equal opportunities child care section that a contract in this case will issue shortly.
