Vol. 542 No. 5

Written Answers. - Bus Fleets.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

182 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the number of additional buses which will be added to the Dublin Bus fleet in 2001. [24928/01]

Since 1999, Dublin Bus has acquired a total of 375 new buses, 275 of which are additional to the existing fleet. These buses have increased capacity on existing routes and increased frequency of services in peak hours. In 2001 Bus Átha Cliath, as part of its renewal and expansion programme under the national development plan, placed an order for the delivery of a further 56 new buses. To date, 12 of the buses have been delivered with the balance of 44 due over the coming weeks. I understand from Bus Átha Cliath that these new buses will be used to withdraw older buses from the fleet.
