Question:

75 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of redundancies notified to her Department in each month of 2000; and the number notified in each month of 2001 to date. [27237/01]

The number of redundancies notified to my Department during 2000 was 13,316, broken down as follows: January 1,723; February 1,199; March 1,438; April 1,068; May 944; June 920; July 1,171; August 757; September 925; October 938; November 1,341; December 892.

From January to October 2001, the number of redundancies notified to my Department was as follows: January 1,426; February 1,053; March 1,495; April 1,791; May 1,633; June 1,636; July 2,000; August 1,514; September 1,488; October 1,729.

The cumulative total of redundancies notified to my Department to date in 2001 is 15,765, which represents a 42.2% rise over the numbers notified to me for the same period last year, 11,063 at end October 2000.
