Vol. 544 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Car Test.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

191 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties (details supplied) being experienced by motorists who are awaiting an NCT test; and if his attention has further been drawn to the hardship this is imposing on persons. [28201/01]

Arising from industrial action earlier this year at the National Car Testing Service, the requirement to present a valid NCT certificate in order to tax a car liable to roadworthiness testing was suspended. Having established with NCTS that service has been restored to a position whereby appointments for tests can be arranged in sufficient time to enable persons to obtain a NTC certificate for their cars for motor tax purposes, the link between the NCT certificate and motor tax was reinstated on 1 November 2001.
