Vol. 544 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

377 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the sewerage scheme for Milltown, Tuam, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29071/01]

An updated review of the preliminary report prepared for the Milltown sewerage scheme in 1994 was submitted to my Department by Galway County Council earlier this month but has not been approved.

The scheme was included in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Galway County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme 2000-02 announced in July 2000. Because of the level of competing demand, the limited funding available, and the need to prioritise individual proposals on a national basis, it has not been possible to include the scheme in the programme.
