426 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the rank of the person in the Spanish Government administration who signed the faxed documentation which was received on 26 October 2001 and which led to the immediate release of a person (details supplied) from custody; and if the signatory to the faxed document is employed in the Spanish extradition division. Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. O'Donoghue):

The rank of the person who signed the faxed letter is deputy director general of legislation policy and international legal co-operation of the Spanish Ministry of Justice. The person concerned has responsibility for extradition matters.
