Vol. 545 No. 1

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

164 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will re-examine the possibility of making an additional milk quota available to a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [29885/01]

I introduced a scheme for the allocation of milk quota to producers who are experiencing quota problems as a result of animal movement restrictions due to the foot and mouth disease outbreak. Details, including the closing date for applications, were set out in Public Notice No. 94/12. I decided, for the current year, to set aside for this purpose seven million gallons from the additional quota which I negotiated under Agenda 2000.

The Milk Quota Appeals Tribunal has completed the examination of the applications and has made recommendations on individual allocations. However, when assessing applications, the tribunal had to take into account the limited amount of quota available for allocation and the very significant number of applications submitted over 3,500. The person named made an application under this scheme but was not recommended for an allocation. If he wishes, he may appeal this decision and I have arranged to have a form sent to him for this purpose.
