Vol. 546 No. 3

Written Answers. - Vaccination Programme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

184 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children his plans to compensate health boards which face substantial costs of implementing new European Commission regulations in relation to safety advisers for the transport of dangerous goods by road and rail regulations 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31403/01]

Compliance with the regulations referred to by the Deputy is a matter for individual health boards in the first instance. I understand that health boards operate to the required standard when undertaking the transportation of the materials in question.

Issues in relation to the transport of vaccines are being examined in the context of the review being undertaken by the national immunisation steering committee established by the chief executive officers of the health boards which deals with a wide range of issues relating to immunisation/vaccination programmes.
