Vol. 546 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Liam Aylward

Question:

171 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health and Children the progress to date on the various services and units at St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny; his future plans for further developments at this hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32281/01]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that a new 45 bed acute psychiatric unit at St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny is being equipped at present and will be opened in the new year. It is also planned to open a six bed coronary care unit and the remaining 14 beds of the new medical/surgical unit early in the new year. A brief is currently being prepared for further developments at the hospital to include a new 30 bed rehabilitation unit and a ten bed elderly assessment unit. My Department has asked the chief executive officer at the board to write to the Deputy in relation to the proposed developments.
