Vol. 546 No. 5

Written Answers. - Transport Authority.

Richard Bruton

Question:

181 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason for the delay in the establishment of the authority to oversee transport policy in Dublin. [32269/01]

A consultation paper on institutional arrangements for land use and transport planning in the greater Dublin area has been published by the Government. This paper proposed, inter alia, the establishment of a new strategic land use and transportation body for the greater Dublin area. During the consultation period 57 submissions were received by my Department. Work is now proceeding on the preparation of the legislation, taking account of the views expressed during the consultation process. The intention is that the general scheme of a Bill will be approved by Government with a view to its publication as soon as possible in 2002.
