Vol. 547 No. 2

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Richard Bruton

Question:

122 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the estimated number of social houses built by local authorities in 2001; the number purchased by local authorities for allocation as social housing; and the estimates of these out-turns for each of the Dublin local authorities. [3029/02]

Returns are not yet finalised from local authorities on total numbers of houses completed in 2001. It is, however, provisionally estimated that the number of houses constructed and acquired by local authorities in 2001 was in the region of 5,000 units. The number of dwellings completed by the voluntary sector in 2001 is estimated at 1,200. A breakdown of these figures, as between acquisitions and units constructed, for individual local authorities will be included in my Department's annual bulletin of housing statistics for 2001.
