Vol. 549 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rail Network.

Seán Haughey

Question:

127 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will request Iarnród Éireann to ensure that the railway bridge at East Wall Road, Dublin 3, is replaced without delay; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6550/02]

I am assured by Iarnród Éireann that it is very conscious of the need to ensure that the East Wall Road bridge replacement project is completed without undue delay. Approximately €15 million in funding has been provided by this Government under the Railway Safety Programme 1999-2003 for completion of this project. Iarnród Éireann expects to select a contractor shortly and to have works completed by the end of this year. Pending the replacement of the bridge, the present traffic restrictions on the road are deemed necessary to ensure the safety of trains using the bridge.
