Vol. 549 No. 4

Written Answers. - Arts Funding.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

31 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if her attention has been drawn to concerns expressed regarding the application for funding for the Cill Rialaig project, Ballinskellings, County Kerry under the ACCESS programme (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6786/02]

I am aware that strong representations were made following the unsuccessful application for ACCESS funding by the Cill Rialaig project. However, this application went through the same vetting and assessment process as did every other application under the scheme. Applications judged technically eligible were evaluated by an independent committee which had the unenviable task of selecting the relatively small number of projects to receive grant aid from the much larger number of very worthy projects from which applications were received. Against that background, the committee did not recommend the Cill Rialaig project for assistance.
