Vol. 550 No. 1

Written Answers. - Land Reclassification.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

74 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the number of persons who were surveyed in each of the townlands (details supplied) when the last survey was carried out for the purpose of redesignating land in County Monaghan in 1991; if the information from this survey is available on a farm by farm basis; his views on having the remainder of County Monaghan designated as severely handicapped; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7241/02]

The last survey was carried out in 1989 and was the basis for the selection of areas for reclassification in 1991. The survey was conducted from a random sample of farms in each townland. The rate of sampling varied from townland to townland but the overall selection was 57% across the whole surveyed area. Data from the survey on the areas and numbers of animals, etc., can only be supplied on receipt of the written consent of the farmers concerned. I have no plans to carry out a review of disadvantaged areas.

The following table shows the number of farms surveyed in each townland, with the exception of Corryhagan which is more severely handicapped:
