Vol. 551 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

224 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if his attention has been drawn to an application for funding under the Sports Capital Programme 2002 for Shiven Rovers Football Club, Newbridge, Ballinasloe, County Galway; if his attention has further been drawn to the efforts which have been made by this club to improve the facilities in a disadvantaged area; the level of grant he proposes to make to the club; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10421/02]

The sports capital programme for 2002 was advertised on 25 and 26 November 2001 with a closing date of 4 January 2002 for the receipt of completed applications. In excess of 1,350 applications were received before the closing date, including one from the organisation in question. All applications are currently being evaluated against the programme's assessment criteria which are outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions of the programme. I intend to announce the grant allocations for the programme as soon as possible after the assessment process has been completed.
