Vol. 551 No. 4

Written Answers. - Consultant Appointments.

Denis Naughten

Question:

145 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 575 of 30 January 2002, he will sanction additional funding for the appointment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10764/02]

The question of appointing an additional consultant paediatrician at Portiuncula Hospital is a matter in the first instance for the Western Health Board in the context of the funding available to the board for acute hospital service developments and competing priorities.

I understand from the Western Health Board that a reply to Parliamentary Question No. 575 issued to the Deputy dated 1 February 2002. The board has advised that a third consultant paediatrician based at Portiuncula Hospital providing outreach paediatric service at Roscommon County Hospital is currently being processed.
