Vol. 552 No. 4

Written Answers. - Fisheries Protection.

Michael Ring

Question:

73 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he has appointed an independent consultant to examine the three planning applications to which the NorthWestern Fisheries Board has objected; the position in this regard; the findings of the consultant's report; if this report will be published; if a similar independent consultant will be appointed in any other county; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12747/02]

As I informed the House recently, I have asked the Central Fisheries Board to carry out an independent analysis of the potential for pollution and consequent potential damage to relevant fisheries from sewerage systems.

The Central Fisheries Board expects to appoint an appropriately qualified and independent consultant to undertake the assignment next week having followed obligatory procurement requirements. The consultant will examine, among a sample of projects identified as being of concern, the three applications referred to by the Deputy, once identified. It is my intention to publish the findings of the report as soon as it is available.
