Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

John Bruton

Question:

447 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation his plans to complete a national audit of local sports facilities; and when this audit will be undertaken in County Meath. [13600/02]

An agreed Programme for Government includes a commitment to complete a national audit of local sports facilities. My Department is engaged in drawing up proposals for my consideration on the modalities to be used and the specifications and standards to be applied to the audit so that accurate and relevant data can be accessed to facilitate a more effective and targeted provision of sports facilities at local level throughout the country. I can assure the Deputy that County Meath will be included in the national audit together with all the other counties in Ireland at the appropriate time. I understand that Meath County Council is currently in the process of carrying out an audit of facilities in the county, which I am sure will be of interest to the Department in the context of the national audit.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

448 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when the next round of funding under the sports capital programme is anticipated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13704/02]

The sports capital programme for 2002 was advertised on 25 and 26 November 2001, with a closing date of 4 January 2002 for the receipt of completed applications. On 29 March 2002, provisional grant allocations under the programme were announced. It is intended that the 2003 programme will be announced towards the end of this year.
