Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Asylum Applications.

John McGuinness

Question:

1364 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position regarding the application for asylum by a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if a decision can be expedited in view of this person's serious medical condition. [16066/02]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that humanitarian leave to remain in the State for a period of one year was granted to the person concerned following consideration of his case file by officials of my Department on 19 July 2002. His case will be reviewed in July 2003 but in the interim he is permitted to pursue his trade of stonemason.
