Vol. 555 No. 2

Adjournment Debate. - Medical Cards.

John McGuinness

Question:

288 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if the South-Eastern Health Board will review as a matter of urgency an application for a medical card in the name of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if a card will be issued without delay. [18081/02]

Responsibility for the provision of a medical card in this case rests with the South-Eastern Health Board. My Department has therefore asked the chief executive officer to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and reply directly to him.

Jackie Healy-Rae

Question:

289 Mr. Healy-Rae asked the Minister for Health and Children the position on a charge by a doctor of ?10 for a certificate by a medical card holder; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18082/02]

General practitioners participating in the GMS scheme are obliged to provide first and last certificates free of charge to medical card holders in respect of absences from work. The provision of other certificates may incur a charge.
