Vol. 556 No. 5

Written Answers. - Driving Licences.

Denis Naughten

Question:

174 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Transport his plans to alter the format of the existing driving licence; if his attention has been drawn to incidents of computer alteration of driving licences; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20929/02]

The design of the current driving licence complies with the EU model licence and contains security features to guard against fraud. I propose to introduce a plastic card licence that will comply with the EU model specified in Council Directive 96/47/EC amending Directive 91/439/EEC on driving licences.
