Vol. 557 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Recognition.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

203 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received a submission for the establishment of a Gaelscoil in Raheen, Limerick; if so, if he has considered the proposal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21796/02]

A notification of intention to establish a new Gaelscoil in Raheen, Limerick, to commence operation in September 2003 has been received in my Department.

This notification process is part of a revised, comprehensive procedure I am putting in place to consider applications for the recognition of new primary schools seeking official recognition from 2003 onwards. As part of this procedure, such applications will be referred for consideration and advice to an independent expert committee, to be called the new schools advisory committee. Notification of my decision on each application will be made on or before 30 April next.
