Vol. 558 No. 2

Written Answers. - Marine Environment Strategy.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

169 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he will restore the marine environment designation which was unexpectedly deleted from the list of headings under which comment is being sought in preparation for his Department's strategy document. [24000/02]

I presume the Deputy is referring to the call for views in connection with the preparation of a new strategy statement for the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources which was advertised in the daily newspapers and on the Department's website on 5 November 2002.

The list of functions outlined in the advertisement was to be used as a high level guide to the Department's functions only. Interested parties were invited to access the Department's website for further information on our businesses. Responsibility for the marine environment function now falls within the remit of the Maritime Safety Directorate.
