Vol. 558 No. 2

Written Answers. - RAPID Programme.

Tony Gregory

Question:

228 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the projects referred to his Department for funding the RAPID programme from the Dublin Central Constituency; and the funding allocation he has made for these projects. [23835/02]

The RAPID programme is a focused initiative to front load and prioritise investment already indicated under the national development plan in the most disadvantaged areas.

My Department is currently examining projects under the RAPID programme which have been received from the RAPID local area implementation teams. Two projects which concern a number of agencies, including my Department and Dublin City Council, relate to the Dublin northwest inner city area. Details of these are set out in the following table. In addition, Dublin City Council and other Departments and agencies are examining a number of other RAPID projects for the area.

In addition to RAPID projects, public agencies, including local authorities, are already providing a wide range of services in RAPID areas, including the Dublin northwest inner city area.

There are also a number of other measures in place in my Department to support the RAPID programme including the funding of the local co-ordinators for each RAPID area, managing the co-ordination of the programme across the Department and ongoing consultation with senior management in the local authorities concerned.
