Denis Naughten

Question:

80 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason for the delay in an application by a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon for suckler cow payment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24128/02]

The person named applied on 34 animals under the 2002 suckler cow premium scheme on 15 April 2002. An inspection of his herd was carried out on 1 October 2002. During this inspection it was found that two animals in his herd were not compliant with the identification and registration requirements since no details of these animals were recorded in his bovine herd register. My Department wrote to the person named on 14 November 2002 advising him of his noncompliance with the requirements and that, as this was a first inspection, it would not give rise to payment reduction. However, he has been advised that a second inspection of his herd will be carried out within 24 months and any non-compliance with the identification and registration requirements found at this second inspection will result in payment reduction in accordance with the terms and conditions governing the scheme. His application under the 2002 suckler cow premium scheme is being processed for advance payment and this is expected to issue to him shortly.
