Written Answers. - Educational Guidance Service.

Mary Wallace

Question:

146 Ms M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of projects under the adult educational guidance initiative which are located in County Meath; the location of same and the funding allocated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27014/02]

Under the adult educational guidance initiative there are 26 projects located throughout the country with the aim of providing a quality educational guidance service for adults.

The first phase of ten projects began early in 2000. The second phase of eight projects began in autumn 2001 and the third phase of another eight projects in summer/autumn 2002.

All projects in the initiative have been selected by an inter-agency selection committee on foot of applications which were publicly advertised. None of the 26 projects approved to date are located in County Meath. Technical support is provided by the national centre for guidance in education.

Since the beginning of the initiative the following funding has been provided by my Department: 2000 –€454,286; 2001 –€1,262,900; and 2002 –€2,646,844.

A sum of €44.5 million has been earmarked for this service in the National Development Plan 2000-2006 with a view to having a comprehensive service in place by 2006.
