147 Ms M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education and Science the statistics in respect of County Meath in relation to the copping on programme which began in 1996 in the Department of Education and Science and has trained over 1,500 people from organisations with responsibility for working with young people in difficulty; the locations in County Meath where the programme is based; and the funding provided in this regard. The crime awareness programme copping on is funded by my Department, FÁS and the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform in co-operation with the Prison Service and the Garda juvenile liaison service.

The following table prepared by the copping on office indicates the number of people from County Meath who have received training over the past six years:

The national copping on initiative was funded in 2002 to a level of €92,410 by my Department. The overall annual expenditure is of the order of €190,000 with the balance being paid by other agencies participating in the initiative.
