Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Schemes.

Denis Naughten

Question:

236 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the total value and number of cheques uncashed by farmers for the last year for which statistics are available; the total value of payments and number of cheques issued in the specific year; the value and number of cheques issued; the numbers and values of uncashed cheques for each scheme in the year in question; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1489/03]

A detailed breakdown of cheques paid by scheme to farmers and traders is not readily available. However, in 2002 a total of 1.77 million cheques issued to farmers and traders combined, of a value in excess of €1.7 billion. During that year, a total of 10,538 cheques, totalling €3,586,464 in value, remained uncashed at the end of the six-month valid period.
