Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Jerry Cowley

Question:

328 Dr. Cowley asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason, when Mulranny national school applied for grant aid for major capital improvement works on 21 February 2002, that the school never received confirmation of acceptance or notice of proceedings; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27125/02]

An application for additional accommodation and refurbishment works in respect of Mulranny national school was received in my Department in March 2002.

The application is currently being examined in the planning section in conjunction with an inspector's report in the matter. As part of this examination, factors such as current and projected enrolments, demographic trends and housing developments in the area are being considered.

On completion of the examination, the long-term accommodation requirements of the school will be determined. The school authorities will be informed of the Department's conclusions and invited to forward their views on the matter. When this process has been completed, the matter will be referred to the primary buildings section of my Department for further consideration in the light of available capital resources.
