Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Car Test.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

764 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Transport if he has received an indication to the effect that the national car test procedures actually damage cars in the process of the test; if comparisons have been done with the procedures followed in other jurisdictions; if he has received correspondence from the trade in relation to the issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1128/03]

The test procedures followed during the NCT are in line with best international practice and do not pose a risk of damage to a vehicle being tested provided it has been maintained and operated in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. I have not received any communication from the motor trade concerning damage to cars by NCT test procedures.
