Vol. 561 No. 4

Written Answers. - Citizenship Applications.

Fergus O'Dowd

Question:

413 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the progress to date in the application for citizenship from a person (details supplied) in County Louth who is married to a person (details supplied) at the same address. [4320/03]

A declaration of post-nuptial citizenship, along with supporting documentation, was received in my Department from the person referred to by the Deputy on 7 July 2002. On 5 September 2002, the declaration was returned to the person concerned as the form had not been completed correctly. Nothing further was heard and reminders issued to her on 3 January and 27 January 2003.

The husband of the person concerned responded by letter on 9 January 2003. A new set of forms were sent to her on 12 February 2003 and these have not yet been returned. I understand that when the new forms are returned, officials in the citizenship section will expedite the case due to the length of time the matter is ongoing.

As soon as the matter is finalised, both the applicant and the Deputy will be informed of the outcome.
