Vol. 562 No. 4

Written Answers - School Staffing.

Phil Hogan

Question:

272 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction the continued service of a resource teacher that has been recently withdrawn from Mooncoin primary school, County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6517/03]

An application was received from Mooncoin national school, County Kilkenny, on 8 November 2002 for resource teaching support for four children in the school. My Department issued correspondence to the school on 9 December 2002 confirming the allocation of the supports sought subject to a review by the national educational psychological service – NEPS.

Following the NEPS review and subsequent recommendation, the school was advised in February 2003 that the supports sought could not be sanctioned. The findings of NEPS were that the applications did not comply with the requirements of Department Circular 08/2002.
