Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Richard Bruton

Question:

321 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the stage in the planning process which a school project (details supplied) in Dublin 5 has reached; the priority which has been assigned to this project; and the basis on which priority has been decided. [8049/03]

The 2003 school building programme has been published and is available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. The project referred to by the Deputy is included in section 6 of the programme among the large-scale projects at an advanced stage of architectural planning. The timing of when these projects can progress to tender and construction is dependent on the funding allocation in 2004 and subsequent years.

The project referred to by the Deputy is part of a pilot scheme for the design of a new PE hall template. The project attracts a band three rating. Subject to future funding allocations, it is likely that the rating will change since my Department is anxious to trial these halls at the various locations. These trials are necessary to allow my Department to fully evaluate this pilot scheme and to inform future PE hall provision at post primary level.
