Vol. 563 No. 5

Written Answers - Visa Applications.

Denis Naughten

Question:

212 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason visa applications for persons (details supplied) have been refused; if he will review this decision; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8469/03]

The visa applications to which the Deputy refers were for adult relatives of a non-EEA person working legally in the State.

The policy is that such workers may be joined by their spouse and-or minor dependent children once the worker has been in employment in the State for one year and has the expectation of at least a further year. The worker must also be in a position to support the family members in question without the need for them to have recourse to public funds. As the relatives in question were not minor dependent children, the applications were refused.

If the persons in question obtain employment in Ireland on foot of a validly issued work permit, visas will issue as a matter of course, unless there are exceptional circumstances which are not known to me at present.
