Vol. 564 No. 1

Written Answers - Motor Taxation.

Denis Naughten

Question:

300 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the total moneys collected in motor tax in 2002; the funds from this budget reallocated to local authorities in road grants; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8908/03]

In 2002, licensing authorities collected €540.5 million, net of administrative costs, in motor tax. Some €431.7 million was paid to local authorities in non-national roads grants in 2002. These grant amounts are over and above grants paid by the National Roads Authority to local authorities for the improvement and maintenance of national roads.
