Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - Departmental Files.

John Deasy

Question:

400 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason information requested by a person (details supplied) in County Cork from the Garda Commissioner under the National Archives Act 1986 was not forwarded; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9778/03]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the person referred to by the Deputy wrote to the Garda Síochána about this matter. He was offered an opportunity to view his personal file but he did not avail of it. In August 2002 the person was forwarded a copy of his personal file and his marriage file. He acknowledged receipt of these files. He also submitted a request, under the Freedom of Information Act 1997, for access to all records held by my Department that related to him. My Department's file in this matter has been released in full under the provisions of the Act.
