Vol. 565 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rail Network.

Dan Neville

Question:

348 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Transport his plans for the future development of the Limerick-Foynes rail link. [10703/03]

Iarnród Éireann has indicated to me that freight services have ceased to operate on the Limerick to Foynes line on the grounds that no viable rail business has been available to the company in recent years and while looking for new opportunities, no viable traffic has been identified in discussions with local interests. The line is now being held on a care and maintenance basis, should future business opportunities arise.
