Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - Police Collusion.

Finian McGrath

Question:

676 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there are still some senior members of the PSNI present in that police force that were involved in the collusion incidents; and if he will make a statement on the PSNI. [15634/03]

It would not be appropriate for me to comment on reports or speculation in relation to individual members of a police force in another jurisdiction.

In general terms, the Deputy will be aware that Judge Peter Cory, formerly of the Supreme Court in Canada, was appointed by the Irish and UK Governments to investigate a number of cases of public concern. He has completed work on three cases and I understand that he expects to have finished the three remaining reports later this year. The two Governments have agreed that, in the event that a public inquiry is recommended in any case, the relevant Government will implement that recommendation.
