Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Finian McGrath

Question:

688 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he plans to request that, where possible, gardaí live in their local community in order to improve community relations and the policing service. [15964/03]

The detailed allocation of resources, including the stationing of Garda members, is a matter for the Garda authorities. Currently, there is no requirement for Garda members, other than superintendents and chief superintendents, to reside in the area of the Garda station in which they serve. I am informed that there are no plans to introduce such a requirement generally. In certain locations, residential accommodation is made available on or near the station for members of the force.
