701 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the degree to which quarrying operations at Ballysadare Bay has encroached on the building and curtilage of Ballysadare Abbey; if the abbey will be protected; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I refer to the reply to Question No. 403 of 27 May, 2003. Although this monument is not in State ownership, it enjoys legal protection under the National Monuments Acts and my Department will continue its efforts to ensure appropriate conservation measures in relation to it.
