Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water Quality.

John McGuinness

Question:

717 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the action his Department intends to take on a recent EU report on the quality of drinking water in Kilkenny; if his Department has received an application from Kilkenny County Council to upgrade the treatment plant at Troyswood; the amount of funding being requested; his views on the issues raised in the report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15430/03]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 127 of 14 May, 2003. The Kilkenny City regional water supply scheme, which includes measures to upgrade and improve the water treatment plant at Troyswood, has been approved under my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2002-2004, as a scheme to start construction in 2004, at an estimated cost of €8.2 million. In the meantime, measures have been taken by the local authority to improve the level of service to consumers pending the completion of the major infrastructural improvements.
