264 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Health and Children when he intends to approve the post of consultant geriatrician at Mallow General Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17071/03]

The provision of services at Mallow general hospital is a matter for the Southern Health Board. The board has submitted an application for the approval of a consultant geriatrician at the hospital. The post, which is subject to approval by Comhairle na nOspidéal, is being considered in the context of available resources and the priority accorded to it by the board.

265 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Health and Children when the appointment of a consultant radiologist to Mallow General Hospital will be approved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17072/03]

The question of appointing a consultant radiologist to Mallow General Hospital is a matter for the Southern Health Board in conjunction with Comhairle na nOspidéal. Accordingly, my Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply directly to him.
