Vol. 568 No. 6

Written Answers. - Infrastructural Development.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

195 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Finance his views on a statement by a person (details supplied) in relation to the urgency concerning the need for infrastructural development, be it communications, road, rail, electricity or gas, for regions such as Inishowen, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17008/03]

The Government continues to prioritise infrastructure delivery. In the first three years of the national development plan the Exchequer has provided €9 billion, about €1 billion more than originally profiled in the Economic and Social Infrastructure Operational Programme of the NDP.

Allocation of investment by project and by region under the various infrastructure headings is a matter for individual Ministers and Departments and I understand in this regard that the Deputy has put down this question to some individual Ministers. In making such allocations account should be taken of various overarching objectives including enhancing national competitiveness and promoting better balance in regional development.
