Vol. 569 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Pat Carey

Question:

276 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will review the decision of his Department not to allocate a resource teacher to a school (details supplied) in Dublin 11 to assist a special needs person. [17776/03]

An application for special needs assistant and resource teaching support for the person referred to the Deputy was examined by the national educational psychological service, NEPS. The outcome of this examination was that a full-time special needs assistant was approved for the pupil in question in April, 2003. Resource teaching support was not granted because the application did not comply with the criteria in my Department's circulars for such support. This decision was conveyed to the school management.
