Vol. 574 No. 3

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before proceeding to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31. I will call on the Deputies to raise the matters in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following urgent matter: the negative effects that the break-up of Aer Rianta may have on the regional airports, to ascertain what, if any, evaluation was carried out before the break-up announcement was made, if all aspects of competition law were investigated prior to the announcement and if the Minister for Transport will give an absolute undertaking that the future progress of all regional airports will not be hindered by the break-up of Aer Rianta.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following urgent matter: the drastic rent increases for local authority tenants arising from the 2003 rent review in which recipients of old age pensions have seen their rents increase by 25%, while persons on the back to work allowance scheme, having exhausted their special allowance period and become the subject of a rent review, have seen their rents increase by 165%, thereby precipitating a return for them to the dole queue.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following urgent matter: the Government's various views on the Hanly report in order that the people can learn why Ministers are making opposing statements on its recommendations and to allow the Taoiseach the opportunity to display some leadership, given the rebellious nature of some of the comments made, particularly by the Minister for Defence, the Apostle Peter of the Government. If the Minister denies the Government three times—

The Deputy may not go beyond the notice submitted to the Ceann Comhairle's office.

—will he be removed from office?

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the need for the Department of Agriculture and Food to adequately assess the damage done to land at Pollathomas-Inver after 40 landslides and to provide funding, as was done in Gort, to put the land back, as much as possible, to its condition prior to the disaster in order to allow farming to resume and also to debate the need for the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government to refund Mayo County Council for the extensive and magnificent work already carried out after the landslides—

It is not appropriate to go beyond the notice submitted to my office.

—as without this payment essential works cannot begin to prevent recurrences, as recommended in the report to the Government.

Having considered the matters raised, I do not consider them to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and therefore I cannot grant leave to move the motions.
