Vol. 575 No. 3

Written Answers. - Education Report.

Paul McGrath

Question:

199 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science the consultations and discussions which have taken place between his Department, Kilkenny County Council and New Ross Urban District Council with regard to the McCarthy report on the future of education in the town of New Ross, County Wexford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28314/03]

I confirm to the Deputy that discussions have taken place between officials from the planning section of my Department and Kilkenny County Council and New Ross Urban District Council with regard to the McCarthy report. The purpose of these discussions was to obtain the greatest clarity possible regarding demographic changes and housing formations which will inevitably impact on future educational provision in New Ross. Notwithstanding the level of discussion which has already taken place, further dialogue will be necessary with all interested parties on this complex issue before finalising the future shape of educational provision in New Ross.
