321 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of unlawful killings recorded in 2003 to date; the extent to which the perpetrators have been charged or convicted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28416/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that in 2003 to date, 49 unlawful killings were reported to the gardaí, of which 31 are recorded as detected. I also understand that proceedings have commenced in 17 of these cases.
