Vol. 575 No. 5

Written Answers. - Voluntary Housing.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

175 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the situation regarding the voluntary housing capital assistance scheme; the levels of payments that can be made in each local authority area per unit for this scheme; and if the capital contribution includes site costs and all fees, including legal fees. [28793/03]

Funding of up to 95% of the approved costs of special needs and family type housing projects is available to approved voluntary and co-operative housing bodies undertaking projects in accordance with the terms of the capital assistance scheme.

The unit cost limits for special needs housing, on one and two bedroom units, provided under the scheme are €120,700 in the case of projects located in the larger urban areas, €114,300 in the case of projects on offshore islands and €88,900 in the case of projects located in any other area. The unit cost limits for family type housing provided under the scheme are €139,700 in the case of projects located in the larger urban areas, €120,700 in the case of projects on offshore islands and €108,000 in the case of projects located in any other area. Where site acquisition costs are included in the cost of a project, the unit cost limits may be increased by up to €38,100 or the cost of the site, whichever is the lesser. The same applies in larger urban areas and up to €31,800 or the cost of the site, whichever is the lesser, in all other areas, including offshore islands.

Cost items such as legal and professional fees incurred by an approved body may be included when the approved cost of a project is being calculated under the scheme.
