Vol. 576 No. 5

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Fergus O'Dowd

Question:

312 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the reason Drogheda was not selected as the location for his Department's 425 jobs headquarters decentralisation programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30047/03]

As the Minister for Finance outlined in his budget speech, a wide range of factors have been taken into account and balanced against each other in selecting Departments and agencies for decentralisation and locations for the new decentralised offices. The selection of Cavan as the location for my Department reflects a balance and mix of those factors. Drogheda was chosen as the location of the headquarters for the Department of Social and Family Affairs.
