Question:

216 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of staff in the Western Health Board; the constitution of the staff; the number of assistant directors of services; the number of staff allocated to each division of the board; the number allocated to each assistant director of services; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30360/03]

The chief executive officer of each health board or authority is responsible for the management of the workforce in his or her region. That includes the appropriate staff mix and the precise grades of staff employed, in line with service plan priorities, subject to overall employment levels remaining within the regional approved ceiling.

The WHB is responsible for staffing. My Department has asked its chief executive officer to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply directly to him.
